Louisville Anchor Dawne Gee Collapses On Air

Louisville anchor Dawne Gee is reportedly in intensive care after collapsing on air while anchoring a newscast Friday night.

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports Gee began to slur her words during the 7:30 newscast on the NBC affiliate. “Gee was talking about holiday shopping when she began to slur her words and slumped forward onto the news desk.”

The newspaper reports Gee was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, with WAVE meteorologist Kevin Harned riding by her side. “She is talking now,” he reported from the ambulance. “I am with her.”

WAVE news director Bill Shory says scans performed Saturday were encouraging, and Gee has been able to get up and move around. She’s also been flooded with support from viewers. “Dawne asked us to pass along her thanks to the many people who have offered prayers and support,” Shory said. “Our WAVE 3 News family greatly appreciates those as well.”

Gee has been with WAVE since 1994, and anchors the 5:30 and 7:30 newscasts. Gee has endured a series of health issues, including battles with cancer. In 2015, Gee sued a Louisville hospital, saying she received “negligent” care when she was treated for severe leg pain.
