KCAL-TV_LogoKCAL, the CBS owned independent for Los Angeles is cutting its hour long newscast at 2:00 p.m. and its half-hour at 3:00 p.m. before the New Year.

The station will reportedly replace the news shows with Judge Mathis from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. and the People’s Court from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. to round out a three hour block of courtroom drama.

No one was laid off in the newscast cuts. A station spokesperson told TVSpy, the station is shuffling the staff of the 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. newscasts over to the KCBS 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. shows. “We think we’ll be better served by having more resources working on a few less newscasts,” said the spokesperson.
