Longtime WLTX Sports Director Loses Battle With Cancer

Longtime WLTX sports director Bob Shields has passed away.

Shields had been battling cancer for a year and a half.

He had covered local high school and college sports in the Columbia, S.C., market for three decades.

Shields left the Tegna station in 2010 to pursue a career outside of TV and eventually became a funeral director. He still talked sports as part of a local morning talk radio show.

Shields is survived by his wife and two children.
