Longtime Washington D.C. Meteorologist Announces Retirement

WJLA’s chief meteorologist, Doug Hill, will retire in September after 17 years.  He made the announcement Wednesday night on-air.

“I’ve been very fortunate to make a career out of a childhood hobby. I love what I’ve been able to do here at ABC7 and I love the people I’ve worked with over the year. I’ve been given a great platform to use my talents in meteorology, now I’m going to dedicate those gifts to Christian ministry and focus on my family.  I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life and am privileged to have ABC7’s full support,” said Hill.

“Doug is an invaluable member of not only the ABC7 family, but the local Washington community,” said news director Mitch Jacob. “He’s been a mentor to our respected team of meteorologists and we will all miss his engaging style, guidance and expertise.”

Hill is just one of a handful of high-profile talent to leave the Sinclair-owned ABC affiliate in recent months.

Before coming to WJLA, Hill served as WUSA-TV‘s chief meteorologist for 16 years. He began his broadcast career in 1978 at WWBT-TV in Richmond, Virginia.
