Robin Reed has been named co-anchor of the WDBJ 6 p.m.newscast.
Reed, who joins Jean Jadhon on Monday, February 20, has been a meteorologist at the Roanoke CBS affiliate since March 1982.
“We are thrilled to have Robin in this new role,” said news director David Hughes. “He is tremendously respected and trusted in our community and has been for decades.”
“Today was Chris Hurst’s last day at WDBJ7,” vp and GM Matt Pumo told staffers in an email. “Chris informed us that he is running for political office and can no longer serve as an on-air news anchor. We wish Chris well and thank him for his years here at Your Hometown Station.”
Hurst announced he was leaving the station last month. You may recall Hurst’s girlfriend, Alison Parker, and station photographer Adam Ward were murdered by a deranged former colleague during a morning show liveshot in August, 2015. “I don’t know what my future holds,” Hurst said in his on-air goodbye last month. “I only know that I’m being called to something greater, that I need to move on to a new chapter, one that isn’t written yet.”
Chief meteorologist Brent Watts will replace Reed on the evening newscasts.
