A Washington, D.C., legend and former Good Morning Weather anchor Tony Perkins has stepped down from the desk at WTTG.

Perkins made the announcement on his Facebook page yesterday.

“I have been a part of the Fox 5 DC family for TWENTY YEARS (!), and my colleagues here have been just that….family. It is impossible to overstate how significant those relationships have been to me. I am SO THANKFUL for them.”

After launching the 9 p.m. show on Fox 5 DC Plus with Shawn Yancy, Perkins cut back his hours at the station. He hosts a local talk radio show daily from 3 to 7 p.m. weekdays.

Colleagues expressed gratitude to the longtime anchor on social media when they heard the news.

Perkins last show will be Saturday morning.
