Longtime Cincinnati Sports Anchor Dies

By Andrew Gauthier

Longtime WKRC sports anchor Walt Maher passed away this morning. He was 81.

Maher, who Cincinnati.com media reporter John Kiesewetter describes as “one of the most colorful characters in Cincinnati television history,” worked as a sports anchor at WCPO in the 60s and 70s before joining WKRC in 1979. He covered sports for the CBS-affiliate until his retirement in 1997.

“Walt’s love for Kentucky basketball was only outweighed by the love he showed his family, friends and fans,” WKRC said in a statement today.
