Local Stations Partner With Traffic App For Access To Real-Time Information On Road Conditions

Four local stations announced partnerships today with Waze, a social traffic and navigation app that will give reporters real-time information on road conditions.

Waze allows a community of 9 million drivers to report traffic via Smartphones. Traffic reporters at the four ABC stations — KGO in San Francisco, KABC in Los Angeles, WFAA in Dallas and WPVI in Philadelphia — will broadcast the data, giving viewers a “driver’s eye view of current and potential slowdowns.”

“With nearly 150,000 Bay Area drivers already using the app, we’ll be able to provide our viewers and users of our digital platforms with exclusive unparalleled traffic information, even on the many roads where traffic sensors aren’t available,” KGO general manager William Burton said in a statement.

A Waze spokesperson tells TVSpy that partnerships with eight additional stations are in the process of being finalized.

In July, KABC teamed up with Waze to help viewers through “Carmageddon,” when the 405 Freeway was shut down in both directions for an entire weekend.
