Local Chicago Stations Cover Politics, Protests at NATO Summit

Chicago stations were in overdrive this weekend covering the ongoing NATO Summit, which continues today at McCormick Place.

WFLD‘s Bob Sirrot and Robin Robinson co-anchored an hour-long newscast at 5 p.m. Sunday on the Fox O&O. Political editor Mike Flannery’s regular Sunday morning newscast was expanded to an hour this weekend.

On NBC O&O WMAQ, weekday anchors Stefan Holt and Daniella Guzman anchored a special 11 a.m. newscast on Sunday. WMAQ also expanded its 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts, anchored by Allison Rosati and Rob Stafford, to an hour.

NATO coverage on WBBM, the CBS O&O, included several additional newscasts on Sunday: 7 a.m. with Kris Gutierrez and Susan Carlson, 10:30 a.m. with Kate Sullivan and Rob Johnson, and 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. with Jim Williams and Mai Martinez.

On WLS, Alan Krashesky and Linda Yu anchored a 10:30 a.m. newscast Sunday morning. Later in the day, Ron Magers and Cheryl Burton anchored a special report from 5:10 to 6:30 p.m.  The ABC O&O was  also live at 4 a.m. this morning, a half-hour earlier than the scheduled start time.

CW-affiliate WGN was live yesterday from 6 to 9 a.m. with Larry Potash and Robin Baumgarten, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Steve Sanders and Dina Bair, 4:30 to 6 p.m. with Micah Materre and Lourdes Duarte, and 9 to 10 p.m with Robert Jordan and Jackie Bange.

All five stations were live yesterday evening during the height of the protests during the 5 p.m. hour. Watch video of the clashes via WFLD:
