Mike Montana, the San Diego housepainter who was convicted of shooting KFMB sports anchor Kyle Kraska has been sentenced to life in prison plus 25 years with the possibility of parole.
“I looked down and I could see the blood pouring out of my body and dripping down my car,” Kraska told the judge before Montana’s sentencing. “I think about crawling on my hands and knees into the street. It’s a miracle that I’m alive.”
The San Diego CBS affiliate says Kraska asked the judge to show Montana the same mercy he showed after he shot Kraska: none.
He reminded the judge that when Montana was told that Kraska might not survive the shooting, he told sheriff’s deputies, “Good. He deserved it.”
Kraska hired Montana in October 2014 to paint the exterior of his home for $3,000. The victim said Montana walked off the job when Kraska refused to give him more money than the original $800 down payment. Kraska said he had agreed to pay Montana the remaining $2,200 when the job was complete.
