Leno Drums Up Support at Boston Station that Rejected Him

NBC late night host Jay Leno returned to Boston today to drum up publicity for his new primetime show, which debuts Sept. 14.

Leno stopped by NBC affiliate WHDH-TV (Channel 7) and taped promos with anchors Kim Khazei and Frances Rivera as well as anchors from other NBC New England affiliates in Portland and Providence.

Leno’s visit was a way to show support for WHDH, which made national news last April when owner Ed Ansin announced that he would not air Leno’s show, “The Jay Leno Show,” at 10 p.m. Ansin believed that Leno’s 10 p.m. program, stripped five days a week, would make for a weak lead-in for the station’s 11 p.m. newscast.
