Longtime KGW anchor Tracy Barry is leaving the business after 33 years.

She made the announcement on Facebook, where hundreds of viewers expressed sorrow, gratitude and well wishes.

“33 years after walking in the newsroom at KGW and putting down deep roots, I am saying goodbye. It is time for me to move on and trust in the magic of new beginnings,” said Barry.

She joined the Tegna owned station in Portland in 1985, and currently anchors the station’s 5, 6 and 6:30 p.m. newscasts.

“I didn’t want to leave without saying thank you. It has been an honor and a privilege to bring you the news all these years, to share this beloved place with you. We have been through a lot together,” she said.

It’s unclear why she is retiring now. Her last day at the station will be Oct. 12.
