Legendary Dallas Anchor Will Retire in 2019

Legendary WFAA anchor John McCaa is retiring and he says it’s not easy.

“It’s not easy to step away from a business in which you’ve worked two-thirds of your life, and loved even longer. However, I’ve always accepted it as true that God gave me the opportunities I’ve had in this field—and no one could keep them from me—but that when God decided it was time for me to quit, there would be nothing I could do to successfully continue in this profession,” he said.

McCaa said he will retire in 2019 to spend more time with his wife, Nora, after 35 years at the Tegna-owned station in Dallas.

“In retirement, we hope to sit at home together—reading, writing and listening to much more music (and for me, playing a little music). Our plan, right now, is to move south to San Antonio or the border area, closer to in-laws,” he said.
