Layoffs Reported at WDBJ in Roanoke

By Kevin Eck

TVSpy has learned layoffs are underway at GrayTV-owned CBS affiliate WDBJ.

Asked for comment, a spokesman told TVSpy, “Gray does not comment on staffing or individual employee matters.”

Schurz Communications announced it was selling WDBJ and other stations to Gray last September. The sale was completed in February.

WDBJ is the station where last August, fired reporter Vester Flanagan murdered his former colleagues reporter Alison Parker and photographer Adam Ward as they were in the middle of a morning show liveshot.

We’ve updated this story and removed a Facebook posting related to the layoffs. Despite accusations to the contrary (see comment section below), the information was given to TVSpy as context for the story. However, it is not in our interest to put anyone in an uncomfortable position with their employer, even if that person has posted the news on social media.
