Larry McCarren is joining WGBA, the NBC affiliate in Green Bay, as sports director.

The announcement comes a year after McCarren’s departure from crosstown rival WFRV, where he worked for more than 24 years. McCarren played center for the Green Bay Packers for 12 seasons and was voted into the Pro Bowl in 1998. He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1992.

“I’m really looking forward to calling NBC26 my new TV home. The station has already made significant strides in re-establishing its local sports presence and I will do my best to contribute to that collective effort,” McCarren said in a statement.

“As a former Green Bay Packer player, Larry brings a special kind of insight that is highly focused on local sports in Northeast Wisconsin,” WGBA general manager Joe Poss said.”That will enable NBC26 to provide the best exclusive coverage to Packers fans.”

McCarren begins at WGBA on April 1.
