KTLA Reporter Catches Hit and Run on Camera

By Kevin Eck

KTLA reporter Gene Kang caught a dramatic car crash on camera while he was recording stand ups about another hit and run in South Central Los Angeles.

Kang said the scene was a first for him in his 18 years as a reporter.

“A speeding car came out of nowhere,” said Kang. “At the last second, it veered the other way, driver lost control, t-boned a car, went over the sidewalk and took off!”

Kang credits security guard Walter Mann for keeping him and station photographer Matt Spinelli safe.

“We called 911, helped the traumatized drivers and pedestrians and gave this video to @lapdhq officers as evidence for their investigation,” said Kang.
