KYW to Relaunch AM Newscast, Announces Anchor Departure

By Kevin Eck

Philadelphia CBS-owned station KYW says it’s relaunching its morning newscast with anchors Jim Donovan and Brooke Thomas in early April.

Donovan is the station’s consumer reporter. He replaces Ukee Washington, who left mornings to do evenings in July.

“Jim is one of the most versatile broadcasters in the market,” says vp and news director Margaret Cronan. “We believe that a new morning show format will give him and the team the ideal runway to provide viewers with a morning newscast that is both smart and entertaining to watch.”

Thomas was co-host of Tribune Television’s Dallas-based morning show Eye Opener.

The two anchors will be joined by meteorologist Katie Fehlinger and traffic reporter Meisha Johnson.

“We believe that Brooke’s natural affinity for morning news, coupled with the dynamic personalities of Jim, Katie, and Meisha, gives CBS 3 one of the most talented teams in local morning news,” says Cronan.

KYW also says Erika von Tiehl is leaving the station for “another city for a position that will be announced later.” She’s getting married in June.

“It’s been a wonderful experience to work in Philadelphia and at CBS 3, and I am grateful for the friendships that I take with me, that I know will last a lifetime,” says von Tiehl. “but my fiancé and I want to relocate so we can be closer to family.”

The station says she’ll contribute to the newscasts until she leaves. She came to the station from WFOR in Miami.
