KWWL Plans Renovations to Waterloo Building

By Merrill Knox

KWWL has announced a two-phased, multimillion dollar “renovation and modernization” plan for its building in downtown Waterloo, Iowa.

According to a statement from the station, KWWL parent company Quincy Newspapers reviewed the facilities over the past year to determine whether to renovate or relocate the NBC affiliate to another site. The building was built in 1914 and is considered a historic landmark of Waterloo.

“KWWL covers a 21-county area encompassing several major metro areas along with many rural and agricultural communities,” VP-GM Jim McKernan said in a statement. “The fact that our home base is Waterloo, when the region’s other television stations are located somewhere else is an asset for our hometown.” [h/t TVNewsCheck]
