KVUE, the Austin ABC affiliate, has won a prestigious Peabody award.
Today, the station became the first in the city to be honored with the award, for a 30 minute mental health special which aired last year.
The winning report, titled “The Cost of Troubled Minds,” was a seven-month investigation into a crisis in Texas involving the treatment of the mentally ill.
The award honors reporter Andy Pierrotti, photojournalists Derek Rasor and Matt Olsen, general manager Patti Smith, news director Frank Volpicella and assistant news director Michelle Chism.
