KVUE Names Bryan Mays Morning Co-Anchor

By Merrill Knox

Austin’s KVUE has announced a replacement for Olga Campos, who left the station in July after 16 years: weekend sports anchor Bryan Mays.

“When Bryan filled in on the ‘Daybreak’ anchor desk, he created a spark that was felt not only on the air, but behind the scenes as well, working closely with the producers to improve the quality of the editorial aspect of the newscast,” KVUE news director Frank Volpicella said in a statement.

Mays, who has been at KVUE since 2004, will join Melissa Gale as co-anchor of the morning and mid-day newscasts on the ABC-affiliate. Sports reporter Matt Mitchell will take over Mays’ spot as weekend sports anchor; the station is currently searching for a replacement for Mitchell.
