KVAL Anchor to Take Over KCBY Evening News

The KCBY evening news will be anchored by David Walker from the KVAL studios, beginning March 12th, as longtime KCBY reporter and anchor Tim Novotny departs the station.

Both KCBY and KVAL are owned by Fisher Communications.  KVAL is a CBS-affiliate based in Eugene, and KCBY operates as a satellite station in Coos Bay.

Walker was the news director at KCBY before becoming an anchor at KVAL in 1999.  Novotny succeeded Walker as KCBY’s news director and has anchored the station’s local news for the past decade.

“We thank Tim for his years of service and the valuable contributions he’s made to the station and the community,” KVAL-KCBY general manager Greg Raschio said. “The media landscape is changing daily, but our commitment to continuing the only local news coverage for the Coos County area remains steadfast.”

A KVAL representative told Coos Bay’s The World last week that two reporters will remain based at KCBY as Walker takes over anchoring duties.

“We will still have reporters and cameras on the streets here gathering the important news of the day for our viewers in Coos County,” Walker said in a statement. “I’m excited to work with our talented young journalists on a daily basis to continue to provide the best local news coverage possible.”
