KUSA General Manager Heads to Tegna’s Portland Station

KUSA’s current general manager is heading to Tegna’s sister station in Portland, Ore.

Steve Carter will leave Denver, Co. for the new gig and replace DJ Wilson, who is retiring.

Mark Cornetta, the current evp of Tegna, will assume the role of president and general manager of 9News in addition to his current duties.

“Steve’s outstanding creativity, passion for excellence and exceptional leadership abilities will help KGW continue providing its award-winning news and community service to Portland,” said Lynn Beall, evpand COO of Media Operations of Tegna.

Carter first joined 9NEWS in 1992 as promotion writer/producer and held numerous positions before becoming vice president of marketing. In 2011, Carter joined Tegna’s NewsCenter Maine in Portland, Ma. as president and general manager. He rejoined 9NEWS in 2016 as president and general manager.

In addition to Denver, Cornetta currently oversees operations in several other markets. During his 30 years at Tegna, Cornetta has also held several sales positions at KUSA including general sales manager, local sales manager and national sales manager.
