KTXA Scraps Second Hour of Primetime Newscast

KTXA — the CBS-owned  in Dallas — announced that they will replace an hourlong 8 p.m. newscast with “America’s Funniest Home Videos” beginning on September 12.

The 8 p.m. newscast, which currently is the second hour of “First in Prime,” debuted in 2006. According to Uncle Barky’s Bytes, ratings for the show have been “problematic” of late, prompting the station to shave an hour from the nightly broadcast.

The 8 p.m. broadcast is currently divided into two parts: a half-hour of local news anchored by Keith Garvin and Tracy Kornet (pictured, left) followed by a half-hour of sports news anchored by Gina Miller. Beginning next week, Garvin will anchor the 7 p.m. local news solo; Miller’s sports show will slide back an hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Kornet and Garvin will continue to anchor the 4 p.m. newscast on sister station KTVT, and Kornet will fill-in for Garvin as needed at 7 p.m.
