KTVU Personality Pat McCormick Dies

By Kevin Eck

Former KTVU personality Pat McCormick has died at the age of 82.

McCormick did the weather for the San Francisco Bay Area Fox-owned station, but is best known for his work on the afternoon kids show Charley and Humphrey. He also hosted Dialing for Dollars for 17 years.

McCormick’s kid show started on a Fresno CBS affiliate before getting picked up by San Francisco’s ABC-owned station KGO in 1961. In 1972 the show was airing on KTVU in the afternoons where it stayed until 1976. The show starred Charley, the puppet horse who wore a captain’s hat, and Humphrey the bulldog, who wore an Oakland Raiders sweatshirt sent to him by Sonny Barger of the Oakland Hell’s Angels.
