KTTV Staffer Says She Was Fired for Video Bombing Live Shot

By Kevin Eck

KTTV production staffer Cheryl Bacon says she’s been fired from the Los Angeles Fox-owned station for holding a protest sign in the background of one of the station’s live shots.

NABET is calling the move retribution in a post on its Facebook page. The union has been in contract negotiations with the station.

“Cheryl was on public property, on her own time, and simply exercising her constitutional right to protected union activity,” Bacon’s union, NABET Local 53, wrote on its Facebook page. “For that, she was dismissed by Fox in a clear and desperate attempt to intimidate and muzzle union members.

NABET says its organizing efforts to “photo bomb” KTTV live shots “at all possible hours, day or night, and at all locations.”

NABET also has a facebook page titled “Turn Off FOX 11” In the about section it writes, “KTTV Fox 11 in Los Angeles wants employees to accept steep cuts in wages and benefits. Help us tell them no! Click “Like” and Turn Off Fox 11.”

A KTTV spokesperson told TVSpy, “Cheryl Bacon is no longer with KTTV.”
