KTLA Adds Early Afternoon Newscast

KTLAKTLA has added two afternoon newscasts, but will only keep one.

The Tribune owned CW affiliate launched a 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. news last week. The station plans to keep the 3:00 p.m. starting Friday.

Glen Walker and Lu Parker anchor the show, while Liberte Chan and Jim Castillo share the weather duties.

News director Jason Ball told TVSpy the station is doing a mix of reshuffling of resources and hiring to staff the new show. “A 3 p.m. newscast gives us an opportunity to expand our news brand and bring viewers an additional hour of local news content,” said Ball.

The move comes shortly after CBS owned KCAL announced plans to drop its hour long 2:00 p.m. and half hour at 3:00 p.m. At the time, a station spokesperson told TVSpy, “We think we’ll be better served by having more resources working on a few less newscasts.”
