KSNV in Las Vegas Stops Using Helicopter. Traffic Reporter Leaves Station

Sinclair’s Las Vegas NBC affiliate KSNV has stopped using a helicopter for traffic reports.

The station used a helicopter for 34 years. Station traffic reporter Kelly Curran posted to Facebook that the helicopter’s last flight was on New Year’s Eve.

“It was an expense that, heading into this year, we just couldn’t really justify,” KSNV general manager Larry Strumwasser told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “So that was the bottom line.”

Curran, who joined the station in 2015, is leaving for KCRA in Sacramento, California.

At KCRA, she’ll occasionally use that station’s helicopter as well as its broadcast-equipped SUV.

The station’s helicopter was owned and operated by Mar-Les Helicopter Service in Las Vegas.
