KSL and Real Salt Lake Strike OTT Deal

By Chris Ariens

As Salt Lake City NBC affiliate KSL continues to lead the nation in Olympics viewing–the station averaged a whopping 25.9 rating / 45 share for Sunday prime time–the Bonneville station will bring Major League Soccer to its OTT platform.

KSL-TV and the MLS team in the market, Real Salt Lake, announced the first-of-its-kind deal to bring more than 90 live games and VOD content to KSL’s OTT apps.

This is the first time a professional sports team has made a local-only OTT deal with a broadcaster. Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen and KSL vp and gm Tanya Vea created the strategy behind the deal. Coverage begins with Real Salt Lake’s 2018 MLS opener Saturday, March 3. Live game content will be geo-fenced to only Utah and surrounding communities.
