KOLN Anchor Vanessa Flowers Out at 6 and 10 P.M.

By Kevin Eck

Vanessa Flowers is being moved off the anchor desk for the 6 and 11 pm. news at KOLN, The Lincoln Journal Star is reporting.

One year after replacing departing Serese Cole, Flowers has been moved to the Noon newscast.  She will continue to anchor the 5 p.m.

Her move prompts other line up changes which are, as general manager Jason Effinger told the Journal Star, all part of the Lincoln market’s increasing appetite for news:

“As the demand grows (for news), we are trying to grow with it,” said Effinger, who noted KOLN’s staff has grown 35 percent since 2009.

As part of the reshuffling, Bridget Fargen will move from weekend evenings to the weekday 6 and 10 pm slot vacated by Flowers.  Jon Vanderford will leave the noon news but will remain on the 4 p.m. news.

>Update: KOLN president and general manager Jason Effinger confirmed the moves to TVSpy adding,

We are no longer just a TV station that lives for the 6  and 10 PM news.  We are a 24/7 media company.  We need depth and experience in all aspects of our news organization.  The explosion of digital news, especially mobile consumption, has caused us to be in a constant mode of evolution.   Daytime is primetime in the digital news world.  These changes will better help us serve the growing demand of our viewers and users.
