KNTV Set to Launch 11 a.m. Newscast Next Week

By Merrill Knox

NBC owned-and-operated KNTV is launching the second 11 a.m. newscast in the San Francisco market on September 19.

“This expansion of NBC Bay Area news allows us to serve our Bay Area viewers with more of the high-quality international, national and local coverage they’ve come to expect from us,” KNTV vice president of news Jonathan Mitchell said in a statement.

The newscast, which will air following NBC’s “Today” show, will be anchored by Jon Kelley and Marla Tellez. Kelley is currently the station’s morning anchor; Tellez is a reporter and fill-in anchor on the same broadcast.

KNTV’s competition in the timeslot will be ABC owned-and-operated station KGO, which also has an 11 a.m. newscast.
