KGO Anchor (Temporarily) Returns to ESPN

By Kevin Eck

KGO‘s Larry Beil returned to ESPN after 16 years for a limited engagement this week.

“How many dudes had to call in sick for them to go down to the top-secret cryogenics lab in Bristol and thaw out Larry Beil?” Beil said on-air.

Beil was a SportsCenter anchor from 1996 until 2000. He now works at ABC-owned San Francisco station KGO where he is the station’s sports director and also anchors the 4 p.m. newscast.

ESPN reports the encore performance was made possible by the Golden State Warriors, who play in Beil’s market. While Everett was in the Bay Area to cover the Warriors title run, he and Beil came up with idea over lunch.

Tonight is Beil’s last night on the SportsCenter desk while he fills-in for Stan Verrett.
