KFOR Meteorologist Apologizes for Comments About Muslims

By Kevin Eck

Mike Morgan, KFOR meteorologist Mike Morgan apologized on-air for what he said was a comment that was, “a little insensitive.”

During its 6:00 p.m. show, the Oklahoma City NBC affiliate aired a report about Oklahoma City Muslims getting death threats and being afraid for their lives after Oklahoma state representative John Bennett (R) made comments against Islam. The story showed Muslims bowing in prayer. After the story, Morgan, who was on set with anchors Kevin Ogle and Meg Alexander said, “I’ll tell you how warped I am, I thought they were getting in the tornado safe position, because that’s just what I think about all the time.”

“Earlier today after that story I made a kind of off the cuff remark and some folks didn’t take that very well,” Morgan said during last night’s 10:00 p.m. newscast. “I did not mean to offend anybody with the remarks I made so we’ll kind of clear the air on that. A little insensitive perhaps…it was perceived. So I want to be very clear that I didn’t mean any ill will in that regard, whatsoever.”

>UPDATE: KFOR news director Carlton Houston told TVSpy, Morgan also apologized “directly to each viewer” who emailed about the comment. Houston added, “Last night, I reached out to the Executive Director of our local Council On American-Islamic Relations. It was a positive conversation and I made it clear that as a station, we are committed to covering these important stories with objectivity and sensitivity.

Bennett said Christians need to be wary of Muslims, because “The Quran clearly states that non-Muslims should be killed.”
