KFDX Celebrates 60 Years On the Air

By Merrill Knox

KFDX, the NBC affiliate in Wichita Falls, Texas, is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

The station went on the air on April 12, 1953, with a 6 p.m. show called “People From Here and There.” KFDX had 30 employees at the time.

“Everything was live from the beginning to the very end,” former general manager Warren Silver recalled. “There were no tapes.  There was no film. We did have little screens like this, kine-scope films we used occasionally. But, I think that was the intriguing thing at that time, that everything was live from the beginning to end for the very best, for all the show all the way through.”
