KEYE Adding 5 p.m. Newscast to Schedule

By Andrew Gauthier

KEYE is bringing back the 5 p.m. news.

The Austin CBS-affiliate announced this week that, three years after scrapping news in the time slot, it’s launching a half-hour newscast at 5 p.m.  Anchored by Ron Oliveira and Judy Maggio, with senior reporter Jason Wheeler and chief meteorologist Troy Kimmel, the newscast will debut on June 18th.

“The new 5 p.m. newscast will be a hard news product, bringing Central Texas viewers what they have asked for,” KEYE news director Suzanne Black said, announcing the schedule change.

Missing from the KEYE’s new schedule is “We Are Austin Live,” the station’s 4 p.m. lifestyle show hosted by Jason Wheeler and Bettie Cross.

Announcing the new 5 p.m. newscast, the station said that its prime mission would be viewer advocacy.
