Kentucky’s Longest Serving Female Anchor Will Retire

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

Kentucky’s longest serving female news anchor is leaving the desk.

WKYT‘s Barbara Bailey is retiring from her job in Lexington, Ky., after 41 years.

“I’m certain I’ll shed some tears, but they are happy tears,” Bailey said. “I have wonderful memories, and I’ve made great friends in my years here at WKYT. So when is the right time to hang up the mic and head home? There’s no perfect time. But this feels right. It’s been 41 years.”

She’ll be stepping down in October, so Bailey has a month left on the desk.

Over the course of four decades, Bailey has covered a number of major stories in the market, including the University of Kentucky’s multiple national basketball championships.
