Around 9:30 Sunday night, a news crew from KCTV was robbed at gunpoint as they were preparing a story for the late news.
According to the Kansas City Star, 3 men wearing dark stocking caps yanked open the news van’s front doors and stole the crew’s cellphones and wallets. The suspects took off on foot. Kansas City police arrested 3 people around 3 a.m. and recovered the stolen items.
Ironically, reporter Eric Burke was putting together a story on gun violence surrounding the 3-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre when the crime occurred.
KCTV did not report the story. But their website picked up the Kansas City Star report.
I'm fine, little rattled. Close call last night. Thanks to @kcpolice for response, compassion and quick work in finding 3 suspects.
