KCRA photojournalist Will Heryford died unexpectedly at his home last week.
The Sacramento NBC affiliate announced the news on its website on Friday.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague,” the station wrote.

Heryford worked in the station’s Stockton bureau for 42 years. He started at the station as an intern while attending college in San Diego and joined the station after graduation.
On its website, the station said Heryford was known to make people laugh and that he “left a lasting impression on the countless lives he touched.”
“He didn’t always cover the lead story in the newscast, but his stories were often the most memorable,” they said.
