Karyn Greer Out at WXIA

By Aneya Fernando

Karyn-GreerAnchor/reporter Karyn Greer has left Atlanta NBC affiliate WXIA after 15 years at the station.

Greer, who has not been on-air since around mid-January, made the announcement on Facebook yesterday, writing:

The new contract options offered to me did not provide the opportunity to grow as the journalist I am constantly striving to become. I will miss working day to day with my great colleagues and friends and I will miss the love from all you loyal viewers. I am stepping out on faith but I know in the end God has my back. Keep me and my family in your prayers. Love you..mean it!

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the station “offered her a hefty pay cut in her new contract to stay and she chose not to take it.”

Greer, a longtime morning anchor at the station, was recently bumped off the a.m. shift to make room for anchor Vinnie Politan. The paper also reports that Greer was supposed to be given more digital duties, but it never happened.

Greer told the paper she’d like to continue in the TV business, but she’s not sure where she’ll end up.

“I’m a good communicator,” Greer told the Journal-Constitution. “I will see what options are out there, who’ll be knocking at the door.”

There’s no word yet on who will replace Greer at WXIA.
