KARK Chief Meteorologist Keith Monahan Retires After Suffering Minor Stroke

By Kevin Eck

KARK chief meteorologist Keith Monahan has retired form the Little Rock, Ark., NBC affiliate after nearly 12 years.

“Eleven and a half years ago I came to Arkansas, What I found were some of the nicest, most genuine people anywhere in the country,” Monahan wrote on Twitter. “You allowed me to become ‘your weatherman’. Thank you, each and every one of you, for letting me into your homes every night.

Monahan announced his retirement a week after he came back from suffering a minor stroke in early March.

“Keith has been a KARK staple for more than a decade. His accurate forecasts have been something KARK viewers could always count on, but it is his sense of humor and endless pranks behind the scenes that his KARK family will miss the most,” KARK 4 news director Ernie Paulson said. “I wish Keith nothing but sunny days ahead. We’re going to miss you, Chief Keith!”

Monahan started his career in 1995 at KGWN in Cheyenne, Wy., before working in Michigan, South Dakota and Houston. He joined KARK in 2011.

“Keith’s been a mainstay on KARK’s award-winning newscasts for more than a decade. He championed the station’s ‘Most accurate forecast in Arkansas’ as named by WeatheRate for a decade plus,” said KARK general manager Kyle King. “We will certainly miss his camaraderie throughout our building. We wish him congratulations on retirement, and enjoy that well-deserved time with family and friends.”
