KARE Airs Audio of Police Pulling Philando Castile Over for His ‘Wide-Set Nose’

Minneapolis NBC affiliate KARE says a viewer sent them audio that may show the reason why Philando Castile was pulled over in the first place.

KARE says it hasn’t confirmed the authenticity of the recording, but the station aired the clip of what sounds like a police radio with one of the arresting officers telling dispatch he is pulling Castile over because of his “wide set nose.”

“The two occupants just look like people that were involved in a robbery,” the officer says. “The driver looks more like one of our suspects, just ‘cause of the wide set nose.”

“He let the officer know that he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet and the officer just shot him in his arm,” said his fiancé Diamond Reynolds.

From KARE:

It’s unclear which robbery the officer was referring to when he said Mr. Castile looked like a suspect. But the BCA had sent out a press release earlier this week saying St. Anthony police were investigating a gas station robbery that occurred in nearby Lauderdale on July 2.

Castile’s fiancé live streamed video of what happend after police shot Castile four times.
