Kansas City TV Station, Radio Station Partner For Sports Coverage

CBS-affiliate KCTV-5 and top-rated Sports Radio 810 WHB announced a new partnership Thursday, the first of its kind in Kansas City sports coverage. The stations will combine resources and talent to bring fans complete coverage for the KCTV-5’s two big sports: Chiefs football and Jayhawks basketball. 810 WHB personalities will provide major game day analysis, and appear on more than 50 sports-related shows.

The news comes eight months after KCTV-5 distanced itself from partner, Time-Warner owned channel, Metro Sports. The station had outsourced its coverage to Metro Sports in 2003, when KCTV-5 station announced it was eliminating its own sports department.

“With our historical commitment to Chiefs pre-season and regular season games and production, it just made sense to pursue this partnership with Sports Radio 810, the predominant sports reporting experts in town,” said Kirk Black, Senior VP and General Manager for KCTV5.

“We think it’s a great fit,” said Chad Boeger, President of WHB 810. “We have always had strong relationships with Kansas City’s television stations and will bring KCTV5 a new dimension to sports reporting and team coverage. Our outstanding staff of reporters is excited to cover the Chiefs and NCAA Basketball not only on radio but now television on KCTV5’s premiere stage. This is a great partnership.”
