Kansas City Stations Try 4:30 Start (Again)

The ultra-early-bird newscast is back.

This week, KMBC and KSHB moved their first morning newscast from 5 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. In a few weeks, KCTV will follow suit.

This isnt the first time around. KCTV kicked off the last cycle in 2001 when it signed on at 4:30 a.m. Then as now, the economy was in a slump, and people were scrambling to take whatever jobs they could find. That could explain why, according to Nielsen, the number of Kansas City households using TV during the 4 a.m. hour jumped from 14 percent in May 2009 to 17 percent in May 2010. More…
