A Kansas City man pleaded guilty on Thursday to killing Nick Dutcher, an assignment editor with NBC-affiliate KSHB. 20-year-old Antonio Grandison was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus 97 years for strangling Dutcher during an attempted burglary in July.
“Nicholas was a sweet kid,” Sharon Hodges, Dutcher’s aunt, told the courtroom. “He wouldn’t do anything to hurt anyone. He loved working at Channel 41. This has devastated the television network and his family.”
Grandison told police that he was in the process of burglarizing Dutcher’s house when the 30-year-old assignment editor came home. Dutcher was strangled to death with a telephone cord.
