Joe Sullivan, the 5:30 p.m. anchor at FOX affiliate WXXV, is adding news director to his title. Sullivan has worked at the Gulfport, Miss. station since September 2013.
In an interview with The Sun-Herald, Sullivan explained that he has taken on many different roles in his career (including a stint as a production assistant at ESPN and 14 years in Richmond, Va., as a sports anchor at NBC affiliate WWBT and sports director at FOX affiliate WRLH). In his new role, Sullivan will lead a team that includes six reporters:
“We have a good group. We have the most local news in this market. We have had entire newscasts that were solely local stories,” he said. “People have been very nice to us. They come up to me almost every day and say, ‘Thanks for giving us a choice.'”
Sullivan previously worked at ABC and CBS affiliate WBBJ in Jackson, Tenn., as a weekday morning anchor. He will continue his evening anchor role along with his new position.
