Media General has named Jimmy Cromwell vice president and general manager of CBS affiliate WIAT in Birmingham.
Cromwell, who has been general manager at the company’s WJTV in Jackson, previously worked in Birmingham at WBMA and at The Birmingham News. “Jimmy and his family spent 10 years in Birmingham and fell in love with the Magic City–this is a homecoming,” said Media General vice president of broadcast markets Stan Knott. “He brings with him a passion for local news, community service and a decade of working with CBS affiliates in the Southeast. Jimmy and his team did great things with the CBS affiliate in Jackson.”
Cromwell has served as chairman of the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors and served on the board of Jackson State University’s HBCU School of Journalism and Media Studies.
“I’m excited and humbled to assume this leadership role and have the privilege to work with the team of professionals at CBS42,” Cromwell said in a statement. “I look forward to working every day to serve the viewers and local advertisers of Birmingham. On a personal note, my wife Rhonda and I are thrilled to be coming home.”
