Jim Vanderzwaan Retiring from KSBW, Replacement Named

By Kevin Eck

After 32 years at Salinas-Monterey, Calif. NBC affiliate KSBW, Jim Vanderzwaan has announced his retirement.

“My decision to retire this summer was not made in haste or taken lightly, but one that my wife and I, along with KSBW, have been working on for some time now,” Vanderzwaan said. “I will miss the wonderful people I’ve worked with over the years here at KSBW 8, and I will miss telling our audience about the weather. I’m truly grateful to have served our viewers for so many years, but now it’s time for the next chapter for me and my family.”

He told viewers Sunday night, weekday morning meteorologist Lee Solomon would replace him when he left the station in May.

“It’s an incredible honor to follow in the footsteps of Jim’s legendary career,” said Solomon. “I have gained immeasurable knowledge from Jim, and I will continue to give Central Coast residents the accurate and dependable forecasts they rely on from KSBW 8.”
