Longtime WJAR investigative reporter Jim Taricaniwill retire in April after 32 years at the Providence NBC affiliate, the Providence Journal reports.
In 2004, a federal judge sentenced Taricani to four months in home confinement for refusing to name a source who had provided him with video of a mayoral aide taking a cash bribe. The tape was part of a widespread corruption investigation that ultimately ended with former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci being sent to jail. Since then, he has been a vocal advocate for a federal shield law for journalists.
Taricani, 64, received a heart transplant in 1996. He said he plans to work part-time with former WJAR colleague Dyana Koelsch at her communications company.
