Jeff Thompson will debut as chief meteorologist for KOLO next Monday.

He will replace Chris Larson who told viewers Monday he was leaving the Reno, NV, ABC affiliate to buy his brother’s North Carolina restaurant and bar.

“We are very excited to have Jeff Thompson as the Chief Meteorologist at KOLO 8,” news director Jennifer Hardy said on the station website. “Jeff brings experience and enthusiasm that will help elevate our First Alert brand and make KOLO the station to turn to during severe weather.”

Thompson came to KOLO from Reno’s CBS station KTVN where he had worked since 2010. He has also worked in Sacramento and at KRNV in Reno.

Both Thompson and Hardy told the Reno Gazette-Journal they were planning on making big changes to how they present the weather, “I know we’re going to break some new ground and we’re doing to do some things that haven’t been done.”
