Jay Leno Embraces Change Heading Into Premiere

Jay Leno has taken a verbal beating from rivals during the runup to the launch of his new prime-time comedy show, “The Jay Leno Show,” starting Monday at 10 p.m. on NBC – and he’s okay with it.

“I enjoy it,” Leno told reporters Tuesday.

“It’s trash talk. If you like playing the game, it’s great fun, and I enjoy playing the game,” he added.

Leno left the hosting gig for the “Tonight Show” at the end of May–a process that was started by NBC, not him, five years earlier –and was replaced by Conan O’Brien.

Next week, he’ll kick off what’s either a giant transitional step for television or the dismal mistake of programming a comedy show with a studio audience five nights a week at 10. More…
