Steve Koles has been named news director at WWMT, a CBS-affiliate serving Western Michigan. The Freedom Communications-owned station announced the move on Monday. Koles’ first day will be December 31.

“We are excited that Steve will be joining WWMT-TV,” the station’s vice president and general manager Jim Lutton said in making the announcement. “His 14 years in television news has prepared him well for the opportunities and challenges ahead.”

During those 14 years, Koles had made stops all over the country. Most recently, he served as assistant news director at WPRI, a CBS affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island. Before WPRI, Koles was an assistant news director and acting news director at KJRH in Tulsa, an executive producer at WMAR in Baltimore, and senior news producer at WAVY in Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport, Virginia.

Koles replaces Cathy Younkin, who left WWMT in December to accept the news director post at WPEC in West Palm Beach.
